What an IPL Photofacial can help with

Here's where it shines

sun spots and sun damage

Sun spots and sun damage

IPL targets the extra pigment so it can break up and fade. For most people the tone looks more even over a short series.

Treatments+

We pass the light over the area so it's drawn to the darker pigment. Over the next week or so the spots can darken, then gently flake away, which can leave clearer-looking skin for many people.

Causes+

Sun exposure stacks up over the years and pushes your skin to make extra pigment in patches, even with sunscreen.

Right after

Day 1-3 · little downtime

The visit takes about 30-45 minutes. Your skin might look a touch pink and feel warm, like a mild sunburn, which usually settles within a day or two. Brown spots can also look darker at first, which is a normal part of how it works.

Spots surface and flake

Week 1-2 · the coffee-grounds stage

Over the first week or two the treated spots can darken and then gently flake away on their own. A lot of people notice their tone starting to look clearer once that settles. How much you see can vary from person to person.

Tone keeps evening out

Month 1-3 · gradual results

The fuller results build over a short series, usually a few sessions spaced a few weeks apart. As redness and pigment fade, your overall tone can look more even and fresh for many people. We'll track your progress together.

What the Beauty Club says

A few words from our Innisfil and Barrie clients.

Natasha has completely mastered the art of combining a results-driven medical treatment without sacrificing the relaxation of a traditional facial treatment. Instead of just waiting around during masks or product activations, she uses that time to melt away every ounce of tension you are holding by adding scalp and shoulder massages. I left with glowing, deeply treated skin and my mind and body super relaxed.

Good questions

Your IPL Photofacial questions,
answered

Everything you might be wondering before your first visit. Still curious about something? Just ask us.

Honestly? It's pretty manageable. Most people feel a quick warm snap with each pulse, a bit like a light elastic flick, and we cool the skin between passes to keep you comfy. The whole visit takes about 30-45 minutes. If you're nervous, just tell us and we'll go slow.

Many people see brown spots surface and then flake off within the first week or two, which can leave the tone looking clearer. The fuller evening-out builds over a short series across a few weeks. Results vary, which is why we check in with you along the way.

IPL usually works best as a short series. A lot of people do a few sessions spaced a few weeks apart, but the exact number depends on your skin and what you're treating. We'll map out a realistic plan at your consult and adjust as your skin responds.

After treatment, sun spots can look darker for a few days, then gently flake away on their own, which some people describe as looking like coffee grounds. It's a normal part of how IPL works for many people. The key is to let them flake off naturally and never pick at them.

Not much. Your skin might look a little pink and feel warm, like a mild sunburn, for a day or so. You can usually head right back to your day. We just ask you to wear sunscreen, skip direct sun, and go easy on saunas and harsh actives for a few days.

IPL works best on certain skin tones and can be less suitable for deeper or very tanned skin, because it targets pigment and can react with melanin. That's exactly why we assess your skin first and only treat when it's a good fit. We'll be honest with you about whether IPL or another option suits your skin.

For a lot of people, yes. IPL can target the colour that causes flushing and visible redness, so the overall tone can look calmer over a series. It's not a guaranteed fix for everyone, and we'll talk through what's realistic for your skin at your consult.

It's a go-to for sun damage, brown spots, freckles, redness, flushing, and small visible capillaries, plus general uneven or dull-looking tone. It targets the colour under the skin rather than texture. If your main concern is texture or scarring, we might suggest pairing it with another treatment.

We usually ask you to skip makeup for the rest of the day so your skin can settle, then you're good to go the next day. Mineral makeup and a gentle routine are great while any spots are flaking. We'll give you simple aftercare to follow.

The big one is sun: avoid tanning, self-tanner, and direct sun for a couple of weeks before, since treated skin needs to be at its natural tone. We'll also chat about pausing certain actives beforehand. Your provider gives you a clear prep list at your consult so there are no surprises.

Nope, they're different, and we want to be upfront: we don't offer laser hair removal at Real Beauty Rx. Our IPL Photofacial is a skin treatment focused on tone, sun damage, and redness. If hair removal is what you're after, we're happy to point you in the right direction.

Great question. IPL uses light to target colour, so it's all about tone, spots, and redness. SylfirmX is radiofrequency microneedling, which works on texture, firmness, and tightening. A lot of people use them for different goals, and your provider will recommend the right fit and sequence at your consult.

An IPL Photofacial at Real Beauty Rx is priced per session, and our IPL Veins and Capillaries treatment is priced separately on our Jane menu. Because most people do a short series, we'll confirm your full plan and pricing at your consult before anything starts, so there are no surprises.

Often, yes. Lots of our clients pair IPL with facials, peels, or SylfirmX for a more complete refresh. We'll map out what makes sense for your skin and the right order to do things, with no pressure to add anything you don't want.

We do! Our clinic is in Innisfil, right between Barrie and the rest of Simcoe County, so we see lots of clients from Barrie, Bradford, and beyond. Easy to get to, free parking, and a warm welcome every time.

You're so welcome here. A ton of our IPL clients are first-timers. We take it slow, explain everything, answer every question, and only start when you feel ready and your skin's a good fit. No judgment, ever.

Yes, and this is worth a real conversation before we book you. IPL is drawn to pigment, so it works best on skin that has not been tanned recently. If you have had sun, used a tanning bed, or applied self-tanner in the last few weeks, we will ask you to wait. We also take extra care with deeper skin tones and with melasma, because the light can sometimes make dark patches worse rather than better. Let us know if you are pregnant, taking a medication that makes you sensitive to light, or recently finished Accutane, and tell us about any cold sores. We would rather move your date than risk your skin.

Most people leave a little pink and slightly warm, a bit like a mild sunburn, and that usually settles within a few hours to a day or two. The spots we treated often look darker at first and may take on a coffee-ground look before they flake away over the next week. That is normal and a sign it is working. Please do not pick at them. Call us if you notice blistering, an area that feels burned, spreading swelling, or a cold sore starting, so we can check in and help you care for it.
